Atlanta Data Science for Social Good (DSSG)

The Atlanta Data Science for Social Good (DSSG) program is an intensive, ten-week paid internship experience that places students onto multi-disciplinary teams working under the supervision of a professor on a problem that comes from a partner in the City of Atlanta or a local non-profit company. Mentors from the local data science practitioner community will provide additional guidance and support. The goal of the DSSG program is to give students an opportunity to solve a real problem in a real context and to give partners an opportunity to tap the skills and ingenuity of a student team. Teams will comprise technical expertise and public policy expertise, for a truly interdisciplinary approach. Problems will come from domains such as transportation, energy, smart urban development, sustainability, food systems, etc. Applications are welcomed from students with backgrounds in computer science, statistics, applied math/optimization, or public policy.

The Atlanta DSSG program is modeled after a highly successful program in Chicago started in Summer 2013 and continues this summer. As such, participants will be part of an exciting network of students, mentors, professors and projects taking place around the United States.
